Boundaries are incredibly important in friendships, as our friendship goals. One of my favorite ways of helping students to establish these is through creating “Friendship Rules” with them. This activity is an excellent companion to Peggy Moss’ Our Friendship Rules but is also wonderful on its own, or paired with another friendship book like PB & Jellyous or Mac&Geeeez by Michael Genhart or TroubleTalk by Trudy Ludwig.
I often do this resource with dyads or small groups. I give each student an “Our Friendship Rules” template and a copy of the pre-written rules. Read through all of the rules together, then direct them to pick the 4-6 rules most important to them. Students cut and paste the rules on and then if time remains, I let them use crayons or markers to decorate their page and then share out what they chose.
