Description
*This resource has been updated to align with the 2nd Edition of this story!*
These discussion task cards were created as a companion to Julia Cook’s Making Friends Is an Art to help students identify ways they can show positive friendship traits. Making and keeping friends is a hot topic in most elementary classrooms and it’s important for kiddos to understand the importance of being themselves and showing others they care!
Eleven of the cards are specific to the traits of the pencils in the story and the other thirteen are general elementary-level social skills questions.
Also included is a mini-poster with the colored pencils’ positive friendship traits.
How can you use these task cards? Here’s some ideas!
• Ask, Ask, Switch
• Gallery Walk
• Concentric Circles
• Centers/Rotations
• As Exit Tickets (Pick a card and respond to it)
• Paired with games like Candy Land, Uno, or Don’t Break the Ice (read a card before you take your turn)
This resource is a set of companion activities to go along with the story “Making Friends Is an Art” by Julia Cook. The book is not included in this resource and needs to be purchased separately
