Conflict Resolution Lesson and I-Messages Activities

Want to help your kindergarteners and first graders learn how to be assertive and give I-statements? This conflict resolution lesson is a developmentally appropriate set of I-statement or I-message activities to help them assertively express themselves when they’re having a problem with someone. It teaches students what to say and gives them opportunities to practice using relevant scenarios with peers.

It’s research-based social-emotional learning created specifically with primary students in mind!

Use these activities in one longer I-messages lesson, one or two shorter lessons, or spread out in shorter bursts for a weeklong skills focus using the included pacing guide. Designed for teachers delivering SEL in their classrooms or school counselors teaching guidance lessons.

It is ASCA-aligned and CASEL-aligned! While created to use for whole group lessons, it is also wonderful for tier 2/small group counseling or social skills intervention.
