Description

This tone of voice lesson plan or small group session helps to develop positive communication skills by teaching students about the impact of our tone of voice in common school and home situations, as well as the importance of paying attention to others’ tone of voice.

In order to be a culturally sensitive and affirming resource, it doesn’t tell students what tone of voice they can or can’t use. Instead, it invites them to share about their own cultural or familial norms before facilitating the relevant practice of using what they believe is the right tone of voice in different situations. The outcome is still students becoming more self-aware about tone of voice and how to be a more effective communicator!

Included:

• Written lesson plan with ASCA standards and CASEL competencies. Includes video hook/intro suggestion.

• Interactive and movement-based or hands-on practice using 20 task cards (with four blanks to add your own scenarios)

• Exit ticket

What others are saying...

“Used this as a classroom lesson with 3rd and 4th grade students, and they loved this – thank you! The “N Voice” concept will be so valuable to reference in individual, small group, and other classroom lessons, or even with conflicts on the playground. Students really enjoyed it as well.”

“Exactly what I was looking for to work on tone of voice with my social language groups. Was able to adapt it for both lower and upper grade levels. Love the well-thought out lesson plan that included video, discussions, and practice”

“I really liked that this resource was applicable for all of the age groups I service. It was a great resource for working on tone of voice, which can be difficult for students. My students are engaged and enjoyed role playing. The various teaching methods were helpful for my instruction.”
