Description

One of the first steps in developing empathy is identifying feelings in others. This interactive and engaging guidance lesson helps students practice figuring out what feelings other kids have by looking at them and by thinking about different situations. Both activities are movement-based and cooperative, meaning even the wiggliest kids stay engaged and everyone is practicing other key social skills while they work. This lesson is also great for broadening feelings vocabulary. All scenarios are about elementary aged students in the school setting.

Includes:
• Written lesson plan aligned to ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors and CASEL Competencies
• Materials for practicing identifying feelings by looking at facial expressions and body language (‘Snowball Fight’ or ‘Crumple-and-Shoot’). Full color and blackline.
• Materials for practicing identifying feelings given a scenario (‘Scatter’, similar to ‘Scoot’ but allows for self-pacing). Suggested response key included.
