Description

Want to help your kindergarteners and first graders to give their best effort and develop a growth mindset? This resource is a developmentally appropriate set of activities to help them: understand that hard work makes our brains stronger, believe that mistakes are okay, and practice identifying what it looks like to work hard at school. It’s research-based social-emotional learning created specifically with primary students in mind.
This resource does not use the “growth mindset” and “fixed mindset” language. It instead focuses on the ideas that hard work is good for our brains, mistakes help us learn, and that it’s important to keep trying. Use these activities in one longer growth mindset lesson, one or two shorter lessons on helping our brains grow, or spread out in shorter bursts throughout the week. Designed for teachers delivering SEL in their classrooms or school counselors teaching guidance lessons.

Resource Includes:

  • Short story to engage your learners
  • Movement-based whole group activity to check for understanding
  • Hands-on small group practice activity
  • Closing circle questions
  • Extension activity
  • Poster/coloring pages
  • Recommended book companions
